If you buy clothes online it is increasingly likely you will do so through a web site in some way facilitated by ATTRAQT Group plc (LON:ATQT).

The AIM listed group has 121 retail clients currently but the number is growing and includes some of the best known names in the world of couture and importantly an increasing amount of US firms.

Fredhopper has a large recurring revenue base that accounted for 90% of total revenues in fiscal 2016.

It has a considerable number of long standing key customer relationships, the best known of which is probably online clothing operator ASOS.

“As independent companies, ATTRAQT and Fredhopper have each built strong reputations, delivering products that significantly improve conversion rates and increase sales for their 250 e commerce retail customers,” said Nick Habgood, chairman of ATTRAQT.

“Bringing the two businesses together will allow us to accelerate investment in sales and marketing, customer support and in on going product development. Increasing our presence in the important North America market is a particular focus. Our objective is to deliver strong profitable growth whilst becoming a global technology partner of choice to leading online retailers,” Habgood said.

The standard model for tech companies is to get the top line growing rapidly and worry about the profits later, and ATTRAQT is no different.

In 2016, revenue grew 22% to 3.6mln from 2.9mln the year before.

Recurring revenue increased 22% to 3.2mln from 2.7mln in 2015.

The group’s business model is based on a recurring monthly service fee plus a one off set up fee and additional follow on project fees. Clients contract up for a minimum of 12 months, with some larger clients signing up for a longer period of two years.

The company ended the year with 1.2mln, down from 3.0mln the year before.

Merchandising and customer response

ATTRAQT’s platform plugs into a retailers e commerce sites and enhances the site search, category pages and new product recommendations.

To give merchandisers greater control of what goes out online is the aim and this applies to devices such as in store tablet computers as well as traditional e commerce.

ATTRAQT’s Freestyle Merchandising platform allows merchandisers to mix and match product lines in the most effective way to maximise sales.

For example, the buyer of a new raincoat might be prompted to also consider acquiring a new pair of boots and a bag to match.

Tesco, Boohoo and Screwfix were among the early adopters, but were quickly followed by Bonmarch, Brown Thomas, ESPA and World Duty Free in the UK and Ben Sherman, Vix Swimwear and TUMI in North America.

Recent contrract wins include Fraser Hart Fields, Volcom, Matches Fashion, Moss Bros., Russell Bromley, JoJo Maman Bebe, Eddie Bauer, LK Bennett, The North Face, OKA Direct, Timberland, Vans (Europe) and Victoria Beckham.

The Freestyle Merchandising platform streamlines and optimises the display, search and recommendation functions. During 2017, it saw seven new core code releases, ensuring it remains cutting edge and state of the art.

ATTRAQT also offers three technologies in one (search, display and control over what is recommended), so the customer doesn’t have to go to multiple suppliers, giving a saving in time and cost.

“ATTRAQT has seen another year of sustained growth of revenues and client base in the UK and North America, whilst at the same time increasing gross margin. We have signed 42 new deals in the period, including several marquee retailers and have delivered a 22 per cent. increase in revenue for the year,” said chief executive Andrew Brown.

“Our objective is to deliver strong profitable growth and become the technology partner of choice for leading online retailers. With an exit rate of 3.9m, good growth in recurring revenue and a strong sales pipeline for H1 2017, we are confident in the continued success of ATTRAQT for 2017 and the foreseeable future,” he added.

We all dream of a greeting card winter: Sitting cozily in front of a fireplace, toasty warm in our comfortable flannels, drink in hand, basking in the warmth of fellowship.

Wake up, pilgrims. Winter in Connecticut means wading through slush, battling freezing rain, standing in murky puddles in parking lots scraping our crusty windshields. And what’s getting really soaked while we do this? Our feet. Bean duck hunting boots combining rubber soles with leather tops, or rubber covers for your regular shoes. OK, your feet were dry, but then you had carry another pair of shoes in a plastic bag or have sweaty feet all day as you sat at your desk in a heated office. And a fashion statement rubber footgear was not.

But there are some new choices in the marketplace that use waterproof leather and water barriers inside the shoe. They look like normal shoes or boots, but they repel water and keep your feet dry. And you don’t have to drag another pair of shoes with you.

Waterproof, warm and fashionable. You can actually wear them all day and not look like a construction worker or ski trail groomer.

“We can’t tell you exactly how we do it,” says Sal Agati, senior vice president of product design for Bass Co. “But at the tannery we make the leather waterproof before we make the shoe.”

Leather is impregnated with waterproof material. Some shoes and boots then get additional protection with a Gore Tex membrane, a manmade material that blocks water molecules from entering but lets the smaller air molecules through and allows the foot to breathe. Other models add Thinsulate or other insulating material for warmth.

Before the new treated leathers, if you dared to wear regular leather in winter, that meant apply silicons and waxy treatments to repel rain and slush. They work, sort of. But they couldn’t prevent salt stains from setting a wavy line around the perimeter of your shiny leather shoes.

“If the customer has to do something to make it waterproof, then it’s not easy, is it?” Agati says. “The new leathers take away that chore.”

In the shoe world,

the urban street hiker look with clunky Doc Martens and a crossover shoe with the flexibility of a sneaker and the look of a hiking boot have been good sellers. This waterproofed leather al lows a more stylish, yet functional shoe or boot for winter wear.

“For two years my wife has been after me to find a comfortable, stylish, waterproof leather boot,” says Marc Bazilian, owner of Bazilians clothing store in West Hartford. “This year I pleased her.”

Bazilians is carrying waterproof shoes and boots by Timberland and Canada North, a Canadian shoe company.

“These are really popular,” says Marty DiTuccio, Bazilians shoe manager, standing by the dwindling pile of Canada North Tundra Black low boots that claim “Guaranteed Waterproof” on the box. Inside the boots is a shiny gold Mylar lining to reflect heat back into the foot, a foam insole for comfort, waterproof leather, sealed seams and thick soles.

The treated leather adds some cost to a shoe or boot. Prices for all manufacturers begin at about $70 and range up to $160.

“If you’ve had wet feet you know how miserable that can be,” DiTuccio says. “Anybody who spends any time outside in winter is probably willing to spend a little more.”

John Sargis, a letter carrier in Glastonbury, dons Gore Tex rain pants and rubber Bass boots with Thinsulate on rainy days. (Gore Tex is a membrane that repels water but allows skin to breathe.)

“I don’t put on all this gear while I’m sorting mail at the office. Some of the others do,” Sargis says. “But I figure if they can take a cigarette break, I can take a longjohn break.”

Some of his colleagues are trying the new waterproof leathers on their rounds.

“I don’t hear any complaints,” Sargis says. “It’s something I might try.”

Some of the new waterproof shoes use the same Gore Tex lining Sargis wears.

No one is suggesting that you wear these shoes and go trout fishing.

But for walking around on a rainy day, commuting to work or schlepping to the store,

the new leathers “will keep your feet warm and dry. I wouldn’t stand in a puddle but if you keep moving along you’ll be fine.”

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas Harris County plans to sue Arkema after explosions at a Crosby chemical plant.

Harris County Commissioners gave the go ahead Tuesday for the county attorney to try and recoup the costs of responding to a series of explosions at Arkema’s Crosby chemical plant.

The explosions began Aug. 31 after containers storing organic peroxides overheated following a power outage at the plant. Arkema executives blamed the loss of power on flooding caused by Hurricane Harvey.

In all, six containers ignited, releasing chemicals into the air and forcing the evacuation of homes and businesses in a one and a half mile radius.

Harris County Attorney Vince Ryan will file the lawsuit.

company lack of preparedness caused a crisis on top of this horrific storm, Ryan said.

It is the second lawsuit to be filed against one of the world largest chemical manufacturers. The first was filed by several first responders who maintained the evacuation zone but became ill following the explosions and were hospitalized.

Arkema has yet to say exactly what chemicals were released when nearly half a million tons of organic peroxides exploded, but investigations conducted by the Harris County Pollution Control Services, as well as the Harris County Fire Marshal Office uncovered serious violations under the Texas Clean Air Act, according to a news release from the county attorney’s office.

Along with attempting to recover the cost of responding to the week long incident, the county’s lawsuit also will ask the court to review Arkema environmental practices and its emergency preparedness plan.

The Affordable Care Act dramatically reduced the number of uninsured in America. If the Trump administration was working to make it more effective, his criticisms of a sovereign nation’s policies might make more sense. But the White House is actively seeking to undermine the Affordable Care Act by shortening enrollment periods, cutting outreach programs, seeking repeal, and ending the coverage mandate.

Ideally, Trump would be working to increase the availability of health care to Americans. At the very least, he should refrain from criticizing allies for their efforts to maintain universal access to health care.

TRAVERSE CITY A bit of do it yourself ingenuity stretched out a $10,000 donation to help save lives from opioid overdose in Traverse City.

Addiction Treatment Services will provide community members free naloxone, a drug which counteracts and helps reverse the effects of opioid overdoses. Julie Moore, a physician assistant with ATS, hopes to make hundreds of kits available to addicts, their family members or anyone else who might need to use it.

The naloxone purchases were made possible with a $10,000 donation from the family of Michael Hertler, a 29 year old Traverse City man who died last year. Hertler graduated from Traverse City Central High School and worked for his family’s business.

But Hertler fell into heroin.

A police report states early Sept. 3 that one of Hertler’s friends found him unconscious in his Ramsdell Street home. The friend, who later told police that Hertler bought heroin, performed CPR and left after he seemingly revived Hertler. Hours later, a woman found Hertler dead.

An autopsy found Hertler died from an overdose of fentanyl, a potent opioid. The police report doesn’t mention whether Hertler’s friend had access to naloxone, which works by binding to opioid receptors and blocking their effects. The drug, also known as Narcan, only works on opioids and is generally considered safe.

“The benefits always outweigh the risk,” Moore said.

Hertler’s family didn’t return a call for comment, but used his obituary to ask for memorial donations to ATS and for more openness in talking about addiction. Moore said ATS officials decided to stretch the money as far as possible.

A dose of naloxone often proves costly.

Moore said pre made naloxone kits can cost up to $4,000. She decided to make kits herself to help put the lifesaving drug in more hands. A medical supply company provided everything needed to make certain types kits for $20 each, she said.

A program that helps international students to stay and work in Nova Scotia will be adopted by the three other Atlantic provinces as they try to grow their population.

Federal Immigration Minister Ahmed Hussen said Atlantic Canada has a retention rate for skilled immigrants that at around 60 per cent, compared to rates of 90 per cent or higher in Ontario and Alberta.

Hussen said the region wide extension of Nova Scotia and Stay program will act as a compliment to the Atlantic Immigration Pilot Project announced in 2016 that connects immigrants and companies.

Canada has never had a problem attracting skilled immigrants the problem is retention, so they come here and they don stay. programs are key because they involve companies in helping to establish local roots for skilled immigrants and their families, he said.

know that will vastly improve the retention rate, Hussen said. think it great because it addresses a real challenge that is a little bit more acute in Atlantic Canada than the rest of the country. Nova Scotia, Study and Stay provides targeted support and services for up to 50 international students during their final year of post secondary studies.

The program includes career mentoring and access to employment related events and workshops, and there is also a subsidy to help local employers offset the cost of hiring students for a work term after they graduate.

Karen Casey, Nova Scotia deputy premier, said the program had received over 700 inquiries from international students, of which 49 students were selected for participation.

are looking each year to add more numbers to that, said Casey. think those numbers demonstrate first of all that there is an interest and second that we can make this work for international students. officials said the pilot program would be adapted to meet the specific needs of the other Atlantic provinces.

Federal Fisheries Minister Dominic LeBlanc said the Atlantic Immigration Pilot had so far designated more than 900 Atlantic Canadian companies to employ skilled foreign workers and international graduates.

LeBlanc said the program had recruited over 1,300 immigrants to the region and more than 1,100 of those had received job offers and are able to apply for permanent residency.
