It like something out of George Orwell 1984.

Canada Competition Bureau, an arm length agency funded by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau government to the tune of almost $50 million annually, investigated three organizations accused of denying mainstream climate science for over a year, following a complaint from an environmental group. Palumbo, Deputy Commissioner of Competition, Deceptive Marketing Practices Directorate.

But it will re open its investigation should it receive relevant new information from the public.

The complaint was filed by Ecojustice on behalf of six Canadians, including former Ontario NDP leader and UN ambassador Stephen Lewis.

It accused three groups, Friends of Science, the International Climate Science Coalition, and the Heartland Institute of making false and misleading claims about climate change, including that the sun is the main driver of climate change, not carbon dioxide, and that carbon dioxide is not a pollutant.

When it launched its complaint in December, 2015, Ecojustice told the National Observer it would press the Commissioner of Competition to refer the matter to the Attorney General of Canada for charges against the denier groups response to the Competition Bureau discontinuing its probe, Calgary based Friends of Science said on its blog that: Competition Bureau is a very important enforcement agency. We regret that any of their time had to be wasted on this matter. We are not a commercial entity, we do not have federal lobbyists, we are not tax subsidized as environmental charities are, we do not represent any industry. We only present the professional insights and expertise of our core team and represent the views of our individual members (not corporations). The typical process for Competition Bureau inquiries is confidential; Ecojustice appeared to use this call for inquiry to grandstand. May, 2015, Advertising Standards Canada, a voluntary industry group that does not enforce its decisions other than through public suasion ruled, following 96 public complaints, that two Friends of Science billboards in Montreal stating: Sun is the Main Driver of Climate Change. Not You. Not CO2 contained, and unequivocal claims (that) could not be supported by the preponderance of current evidence on the matters in dispute (and) omitted relevant information, namely that a number of factors have led to climate change, of which the sun is just one. someone who has written extensively on climate change for a decade, my view is that all of this is madness. We are entering into dangerous territory, a fundamental attack on free speech.

If we going to use agencies of the federal government to investigate and even prosecute deniers for making and misleading claims then let damn well do the same for alarmists who do the same thing all the time.

I read and hear politicians making and misleading claims about climate change almost daily, particularly with regard to what federal and provincial carbon pricing schemes will actually accomplish, as opposed to what our governments are claiming they will accomplish.

But the way to decide these issues is through public debate, not running to an agency of the federal government to shut up people we disagree with, particularly a government that itself makes false and misleading claims about man made climate change all the time.

While the Cranky Crankersons out there the Olympics and never watch a minute of the wall to wall coverage, many more of us live and die with our athletes, plenty of whom have spent years in Alberta fine tuning their skills for the ultimate stage.

We mere mortals disrupt our lives for two weeks to take in so much of the action that broadcast overnight from Pyeongchang, South Korea, but the athletes have dedicated their young lives.

While the 1988 Calgary Olympic Winter Games were indeed a magical moment in this province history, it the amazing legacy of those venues, minus the problematic ski jumps, that has allowed the spirit to live on in the hearts of today athletes.

The men and women of vision who brought the Games to Calgary did so much more with their inspired belief that Canada, and, in fact, the world could and would benefit greatly from the legacy of 1988 when the Games themselves had long moved on.

Those facilities, so familiar now as part of the landscape, both literally and culturally, have proven critical in Canada development as a winter sports powerhouse.

Remember, we only won five medals in 1988 silvers from Brian Orser and Elizabeth Manley, and bronze from Karen Percy (two!) and Rob McCall and Tracy Wilson.

But wow, those medals and those Games were the initial inspiration for generations of amazing athletes and those who continue to slide, glide and ride for national glory.

We had 27 medals as of press time before the Olympics in Pyeongchang were over.

So as the fine young men and women representing Canada on the world stage give their all for Olympic glory, let us remember and appreciate those who initially brought the 1988 Games and our legacy venues to Calgary and had the foresight to make Alberta a place where dreams take flight.

An attempted bank robbery that mushroomed into a hostage taking ended peacefully Thursday night with the suspect’s surrender at a bank in Canton Township, police said. without incident, according to police. All of the hostages were bank employees, police said. Officers surrounded the bank and began diverting traffic away from the area, closing that segment of Canton Center Road during the Thursday’s afternoon rush hours, while the Western Wayne Special Operations Team spent hours negotiating for the release of the hostages, police spokeswoman Barb Caruso said.

Canton Deputy Police Chief Craig Wilsher said no shots were fired and no injuries reported. Police said the man had been armed with a handgun.

Police believe he acted alone.

“We have no information at this time that there was more than one suspect,” Baugh said.

The situation at the bank was tense.

“We are praying,” Canton Township Supervisor Pat Williams said early on.

The incident marked the second bank robbery in Canton in eight days, but Baugh said police couldn’t yet say if the two were related.

In that robbery, a masked gunman, described as a white male in his 30s, brandished a gun, demanded money from a teller and escaped with an undisclosed amount of cash.

But both were thinking about the inner city kids who would benefit from their efforts. Since Monday, nearly 60 criminal offenders have gone to the camp to clear brush, fix picnic tables, rake, plant gardens and prepare lunch.

It was doubtful whether the 300 acre camp in Hebron and Andover would open July 6 after questionable spending practices kept its gates closed last year to the disadvantaged Hartford kids it is designed to serve. The camp is run by the nonprofit Hartford Neighborhood Center.

But then a chance meeting brightened its outlook. The center’s acting director, Lynn Ford, bumped into her neighbor, Eric Crawford, in the laundry room at Park Place Towers in Hartford a few weeks ago. They began talking about the camp’s problems. When Crawford who organizes community service crews composed of people placed in youth, adult or substance abuse programs as an alternative to incarceration learned of the camp’s plight, he made a phone call.

The result? Work crews from all over the state descended on Camp Hi Hoti this week.

There are 20 private and not for profit agencies that are part of a $52 million taxpayer funded program administered through the state Office of Alternative Sanctions of the Judicial Branch. Organizers say the programs provide treatment for offenders while freeing space in prisons for violent criminals to serve more of their sentences.

Crawford is the director of the Hartford based Community Partners in Action Substance Abuse Program. It runs a residential center where offenders are required to live for about four months while they participate in training, support groups and community service projects. The work takes crews to state parks for cleanup, to help Connecticut Special Olympics’ athletes and to parks to build playscapes, among other projects.

We take the guys who are motivated and want to help themselves,” Crawford said. Most of them are from the ‘hood.”

The majority of those in the program have been arrested for assault or drug charges, he said.

For every five offenders working at Camp Hi Hoti this week, there was one counselor watching and working alongside them.

Williams, who has already served 10 months in jail, locked in his cell for 22 hours each day, has been living at a Hartford center for the past two months.

Velez, 18, seemed pleased to be outside. Not too long ago, she said, she drove the getaway car during a robbery of a Hartford residence that yielded $6,000 in cash. Velez said she spent her share of the money on a gold ring, Timberland boots, Tommy Hilfiger clothes and marijuana. Since she turned herself in, she said, she’s spent her days at the Day Incarceration Center in Hartford. At night she goes home, where she’s restricted by an ankle security device.

About 35 percent of the people in the alternative incarceration programs don’t complete them, so they are returned to jail, said James W. Greene, deputy director, field services of the sanctions office.

citizens into smugglers

November 01, 1998By DAVE BARRY DAVE BARRY,Knight Ridder/Tribune

I SAY IT’S TIME our “leaders” in Washington stopped blathering about sex and started paying attention to the issues that really matter to this nation, such as whether we should declare war on Canada.

I say: yes. Postal Service.” Here is a direct quote from this document:

“Step One: Before inflating Passionate Pam, be sure to smear plenty of .”

Whoops! Wrong document! I meant to quote from an article in the July 1998 issue of Contractor magazine, which was sent to me by alert reader Steve Hill. The article, written by Rob Heselbarth, begins:

“WINDSOR, Ontario Americans are crossing the Canadian border near Detroit to purchase 3.5 gallon per flush toilets.”

That is correct: Canada has become a major supplier of illegal 3.5 gallon toilets. citizens now spend more time flushing their toilets than on all other forms of exercise combined.

But that is not the point. The point is that 1.6 gallon toilets are the law of the land, and as the late Supreme Court Justice Felix Frankfurter stated: “Just because Congress passes a stupid law, that is no excuse for awwwggh.” Unfortunately, Justice Frankfurter died at that point, but most legal scholars believe he intended to finish his sentence by saying “. that is no excuse for people to go up to Canada and buy working toilets.”

Yet that is exactly what is happening. The Contractor article quotes a Canadian plumbing wholesaler as follows: “We’ve definitely seen an increase in the sales of 3.5 gallon toilets. The people who buy them are mostly from the States. They tell us outright they’re Americans who came here to buy them.”

The article quotes officials of both the Department of Energy and the Environmental Protection Agency as stating that it is illegal to bring these toilets into the United States. But it also quotes a Customs Service official as saying that Customs makes no effort to confiscate the toilets. “As long as they tell us they have them,” the official said, “it makes no difference to us.”

In other words, people can simply waltz across our borders with illegal toilets supplied by ruthless Canadian toilet cartels headed by greed crazed Canadian toilet kingpins who will stop at nothing to push their illicit wares on our vulnerable society. If you are a parent, consider this chilling scenario: Your child is attending a party, when another youngster a “bad apple” approaches and says, “Psst!
timberland 6 premium Canada's big flush turns U
Wanna try a 3.5 gallon Canadian toilet? All the other kids are doing it!” The next thing you know, your child is acting furtive and sneaking off to a “bad part of town” whenever nature calls. Your child is hooked.

Perhaps your parental reaction is: “My little Tommy would never do a thing like that!” Well, let me ask you a couple of questions:

Do you fully comprehend the power of peer pressure?

Are you aware that your child is not named “Tommy”?

Did you realize that “peer pressure” was a toilet related pun?

If you answered “yes” or “no,” then maybe you are beginning to see why we, as a nation, need to send a clear message to the Canadians, in the form of either a sternly worded letter or a nuclear strike. Strong words, you say?

Perhaps you will change your mind when you hear what else Canada is exporting. I refer to an article sent in by alert reader Joe Kovanda from the June 1998 issue of Farm Times, reporting that Canada’s foreign trading partners were complaining that shipments of Canadian feed barley contained excessive amounts of get ready deer excrement. citizens even possibly the CIA can locate on a map; and (2) professional ice hockey would be canceled. There’s virtually no downside! So I urge you to call your elected representatives today and tell them, in no uncertain terms: “I am strongly in favor, although don’t ask me of what.” Also let them know that we, the people, don’t want to hear another word about this Washington sex scandal. Or, if we have to hear more, how about some new episodes? Speaking of which, I have to go; Passionate Pam has sprung a leak.

timberland boots sale ATTRAQT Group PLC’s Fredhopper acquisition a big step on the path to becoming world’s leading visual merchandising solutions provider

If you buy clothes online it is increasingly likely you will do so through a web site in some way facilitated by ATTRAQT Group plc (LON:ATQT).

The AIM listed group has 121 retail clients currently but the number is growing and includes some of the best known names in the world of couture and importantly an increasing amount of US firms.

Fredhopper has a large recurring revenue base that accounted for 90% of total revenues in fiscal 2016.

It has a considerable number of long standing key customer relationships, the best known of which is probably online clothing operator ASOS.

“As independent companies, ATTRAQT and Fredhopper have each built strong reputations, delivering products that significantly improve conversion rates and increase sales for their 250 e commerce retail customers,” said Nick Habgood, chairman of ATTRAQT.

“Bringing the two businesses together will allow us to accelerate investment in sales and marketing, customer support and in on going product development. Increasing our presence in the important North America market is a particular focus. Our objective is to deliver strong profitable growth whilst becoming a global technology partner of choice to leading online retailers,” Habgood said.

The standard model for tech companies is to get the top line growing rapidly and worry about the profits later, and ATTRAQT is no different.

In 2016, revenue grew 22% to 3.6mln from 2.9mln the year before.

Recurring revenue increased 22% to 3.2mln from 2.7mln in 2015.

The group’s business model is based on a recurring monthly service fee plus a one off set up fee and additional follow on project fees. Clients contract up for a minimum of 12 months, with some larger clients signing up for a longer period of two years.

The company ended the year with 1.2mln, down from 3.0mln the year before.

Merchandising and customer response

ATTRAQT’s platform plugs into a retailers e commerce sites and enhances the site search, category pages and new product recommendations.

To give merchandisers greater control of what goes out online is the aim and this applies to devices such as in store tablet computers as well as traditional e commerce.

ATTRAQT’s Freestyle Merchandising platform allows merchandisers to mix and match product lines in the most effective way to maximise sales.

For example, the buyer of a new raincoat might be prompted to also consider acquiring a new pair of boots and a bag to match.

Tesco, Boohoo and Screwfix were among the early adopters, but were quickly followed by Bonmarch, Brown Thomas, ESPA and World Duty Free in the UK and Ben Sherman, Vix Swimwear and TUMI in North America.

Recent contrract wins include Fraser Hart Fields, Volcom, Matches Fashion, Moss Bros., Russell Bromley, JoJo Maman Bebe, Eddie Bauer, LK Bennett, The North Face, OKA Direct, Timberland, Vans (Europe) and Victoria Beckham.

The Freestyle Merchandising platform streamlines and optimises the display, search and recommendation functions. During 2017, it saw seven new core code releases, ensuring it remains cutting edge and state of the art.

ATTRAQT also offers three technologies in one (search, display and control over what is recommended), so the customer doesn’t have to go to multiple suppliers, giving a saving in time and cost.

“ATTRAQT has seen another year of sustained growth of revenues and client base in the UK and North America, whilst at the same time increasing gross margin. We have signed 42 new deals in the period, including several marquee retailers and have delivered a 22 per cent. increase in revenue for the year,” said chief executive Andrew Brown.

“Our objective is to deliver strong profitable growth and become the technology partner of choice for leading online retailers. With an exit rate of 3.9m, good growth in recurring revenue and a strong sales pipeline for H1 2017, we are confident in the continued success of ATTRAQT for 2017 and the foreseeable future,” he added.
